Grazia discovers Foxford

Grazia discovers Foxford

Situated on the River Moy, the picturesque town of Foxford has established an excellent reputation as a tourist centre. Nestling between the Ox and Nephin mountains Foxford is the ideal location for a relaxing, stress free break away from the routines of working life. The warmth of the Foxford blanket is equally matched by the warmth of its people who are always ready to welcome a visitor to their midst. You can choose from its many traditional pubs, restaurants as well as B&B's and Guesthouses. Foxford has much to entertain its visitors with outdoor activities, visitor centre, fishing and walking.

(…) But the Irish identity is built on courage as well as pain. The courage of people like Mother Agnes Morragh Bernard, who in 1892 founded the Foxford Woolen Mill that still thrives today, with its threads, colours and tests; but above all, the courage of men such as Michael Davitt, theorist of the passive resistance to which thanks was owed for the liberation of the Irish peasants from the English landlords. The Michael Davitt Museum, located near Foxford, next to the Straide Abbey where he’s buried, retraces the most important stages in his tale of freedom."
